Rosberg maintains perfect start, Hamilton suffers

first_img0Shares0000Mercedes AMG Petronas German driver Nico Rosberg grabbed the advantage at the start and then controlled the 57-laps race all the way to the chequered flag ©Mohammed al-Shaikh (AFP)BAHRAIN, April 3 – Nico Rosberg consolidated his lead in this year’s embryonic drivers world championship in emphatic fashion on Sunday when he seized a well-judged victory for Mercedes in a dramatic Bahrain Grand Prix.Making the most of his team-mate and defending champion Lewis Hamilton’s misfortunes, the 30-year-old German grabbed the advantage at the start and then controlled the 57-laps race all the way to the chequered flag. It was his second win this season after Melbourne, his fifth in succession and the 16th of his career, enabling him to double his points tally this season to 50.Pole-sitter Hamilton, who had a slow start and then another Turn One collision, fought back from eighth on the opening lap to finish third, separated from his team-mate by the familiar figure of Kimi Raikkonen. It was the eighth time the Finn, who finished second for Ferrari, 10.2 seconds adrift of Rosberg, had claimed a podium finish at the Bahrain International Circuit.Raikkonen was left to fly the flag for Ferrari after his teammate Sebastian Vettel’s Bahrain hopes ended in a cloud of smoke as his car’s engine packed up on the warm-up lap.The four-time former world champion was well placed in third on the grid to mount a serious challenge to Mercedes on the front row.Hamilton, who was 30 seconds behind in third, is now second in the title race with 33 points ahead of Australian Daniel Ricciardo on 24.Ricciardo finished fourth for Red Bull, for the second race in succession, ahead of Frenchman Romain Grosjean, who secured a fine fifth for the new American Haas team, and sixth placed Dutch teenager Max Verstappen of Toro Rosso.Russian Daniil Kvyat finished seventh in the second Red Bull ahead of Felipe Massa of Williams, Valtteri Bottas in the second Williams and Belgian debutant Stoffel Vandoorne who took a point in his first race with McLaren, filling in for Fernando Alonso.0Shares0000(Visited 1 times, 1 visits today)last_img read more

Allen House undergoing renovations at Fort St. John North Peace Museum

first_imgThe museum wants to stabilize the outside of the building so that the elements don’t come through and wreck the interior further. Work will start on windows in the future (as funding or donations allow) and then the they will move to the inside.“Depending on funding, we hope to complete our restoration by 2020. If anyone wants to make a donation to this project, they can make a donation to the North Peace Historical Society. Tax receipts can be issued for monetary donations greater than $10.” FORT ST. JOHN, B.C. – The Allen House was moved to the Fort St. John North Peace Museum during December of 2016 and is now getting some much needed TLC.Manager/Curator, Heather Sjoblom says there are currently many parts of the house being worked on including the replacement of rotting and missing logs and the roof.Ken Boon of Chinook Log Cabins is working on long replacement. Sjoblom says the cost of this is somewhere around $10,000 with numerous volunteer hours from Ken and others. In August, Ralph Reese of RTR Roofing will be doing the roof of the house. The cost of this is expected to be $23,000. By the end of the summer, the cost so far will be at a estimated $63,700.“Nearly all of the funding has been provided by the Peace River Regional District through their Grant-in-Aid program. The North Peace Historical Society (NPHS- who operates the Fort St. John North Peace Museum) contributes the volunteers as well as some of the funding when our costs override the grant money available from PRRD. Last year, with grants from PRRD, the NPHS spent $13,200 to have a foundation built by Andrew Keim and Eternity Timbers. As the building had been moved on the Allen/Large property once in the 1980s, it had no foundation and the bottom logs are missing. With more funds from PRRD, John Bergen and and Bergen Building Moving moved the house from Baldonnel to the museum property for $17,480.”center_img – Advertisement –last_img read more

Matip availability latest: ‘Liverpool fans deserve explanation’, says Klopp

first_imgJurgen Klopp has revealed his and the club’s frustration over their ongoing dispute with Cameroon and FIFA about the availability of Joel Matip. The Reds manager was forced to pull the defender out of Sunday’s Premier League clash at Manchester United because of a row over his international status.Matip has not represented Cameroon since September 2015 and it was widely understood that he had retired from international football, yet he was still named in Cameroon’s squad for the ongoing Africa Cup of Nations in Gabon. The Cameroonian Football Federation had a right to do this under FIFA rules and, with the player having not reported for duty, he could consequently be suspended from club football for the duration of the tournament. It means he could be out of action for the Reds for a MONTH – missing a potential six games. The situation has surprised Liverpool, as it was the club’s understanding the 25-year-old’s decision to retire had been respected. The Merseyside club have since called on FIFA to step in but so far the world governing body has only highlighted its regulations.Klopp resents the suggestion the Reds or Matip himself have wilfully gone against Cameroon’s wishes and is adamant the club have done nothing wrong. And the boss has now called for greater clarity from officials, insisting supporters ‘deserve to know’ what’s happening.Asked about the matter at a press conference to preview Wednesday’s FA Cup third-round replay at Plymouth, Klopp said: “There are not a lot of times in my life when I have been in a situation like this, not even a similar situation.“I don’t want to blame anybody but I think our supporters deserve to know about the process we are in.“In this moment, we are sure we did nothing wrong. We are sure Joel Matip did nothing wrong. He didn’t play for Cameroon since 2015. Since he has been here he has not been a Cameroon national player.“In this moment he is not in the squad of Cameroon, so he cannot play for them, but in this moment we have not a 100 per cent guarantee he could play for us. That is the situation.”Matip, who joined Liverpool from Schalke in the summer, recently recovered from an ankle injury and Klopp was keen to get him back into action. However, due to the ongoing disput, he expects not to be able to play him at Home Park.“I would consider lining him up tomorrow but I don’t know if I can,” said the German coach. “From the sports side it would make sense – perfect game for him, but I am not sure if I can.”Regarding contact with FIFA, he added: “FIFA told us that this Friday they will decide if they open a case on it or not.“I accept rules in life but I think they should always be based on human senses. For me, not a lawyer or a legal person, it is pretty difficult.“If he had not been injured – but he was – then he couldn’t have played from January 2. If FIFA opens a case – and I don’t know but I don’t think they will because we are sure everything is all right – then it would be 7-10 days until we get a decision.“We conceded an offside goal at Man Utd. That doesn’t feel good but I am kind of used to it. In this case it is really hard.” 1 Joel Matip could miss up to six games for Liverpool because of the row over his international status last_img read more

It’s theatre on a football pitch if you like.“Scoring goals is ultimately what everyone wants to see. That euphoric moment is being lost because of VAR.“It is also being lost for the players. Players are going to stop celebrating properly because they are going to think ‘I’m going to look stupid until they check’ but the delayed check means the celebration isn’t going to be real and you are going to lose that as a player and as a supporter.”last_img read more
